SU2C Researchers Find Promising New Treatment Strategy for Stage 1-3 NSCL Cancer Patients

A new, innovative approach to lung cancer treatment in which immunotherapy is administered prior to surgery is yielding encouraging outcomes in 45% of patients treated in this small, compelling study from researchers on the Stand Up To Cancer-Cancer Research Institute Cancer Immunology Dream Team, according to results presented at the American Association for Cancer Research Annual Meeting 2018, April 16 and simultaneously published online in the New England Journal of Medicine. The AACR is the Scientific Partner of Stand Up To Cancer.

St. Baldrick’s Foundation Commits $8 million to Support Pediatric Cancer Dream Team with SU2C

The work of the Stand Up To Cancer—St. Baldrick’s Foundation Pediatric Cancer Dream Team, launched in 2013 to help develop new immunotherapy approaches to high-risk childhood cancers, will continue with a commitment of $8 million from the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the world’s largest private funder of childhood cancer research grants. To further the impact of this gift, the eight institutions that make up the consortium have committed matching dollars to a total of $16 million.

Announcing the Pancreatic Cancer Collective

The Lustgarten Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) announced today at the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research, SU2C’s Scientific Partner, that they are entering into a formal strategic partnership to drive research to improve outcomes for pancreatic cancer patients. The Pancreatic Cancer Collective, funded by the Lustgarten Foundation and Stand Up To Cancer, will accelerate research for pancreatic cancer patients who desperately need better treatments. The initial funding commitment will be $25 million.

PBS and Stand Up To Cancer Announce Students Selected for 2018 Class of Emperor Science Awards

One hundred high school students from 28 states have been named winners in the third year of PBS’ and Stand Up To Cancer’s Emperor Science Award program. The program is designed to empower high school students to become the next generation of scientists as they explore careers in cancer research and care through a unique mentoring opportunity. Three of the Awardees are students receiving support for a second year of mentorship, as allowed by the program.

Stand Up To Cancer Awards 2018 Laura Ziskin Prize in Translational Research

Stand Up To Cancer awarded the 2018 Laura Ziskin Prize in Translational Research to two highly respected researchers who will bring together expertise in DNA damage repair mechanisms and imaging mass cytometry to investigate how the immune system recognizes breast cancer and devise new treatment combinations for more effective treatments. The collaborators will examine the collection of neoantigens (or protein markers) present on patient-derived and laboratory models. The team will use this information to more accurately replicate human tumors in laboratory models so that new combinations of treatments can be more rapidly and accurately tested to speed more promising therapies to the clinic. The Prize was awarded at the 2018 SU2C Scientific Summit in Santa Monica.

Stand Up To Cancer Awards $11M Convergence Research Program Using AI to Investigate Immunotherapies

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) announces today a “Convergence 2.0” research initiative that awards $11 million to seven multi-disciplinary research teams to investigate immune system response to cancers. The multi-institutional teams being announced today at SU2C’s Scientific Summit draw from the nation’s top academic research centers and will have access to Microsoft Research’s experts in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
