A Two Cent ($.02) Donation Per Issue View of This Unique Digital Magazine Goes to Stand Up To Cancer®, Backed by Whole Living® magazineNEW YORK – August 13, 2012 – Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia’s Whole Living magazine announced today the launch of “50 Ways to Stand Up To Cancer,” a special digital issue featuring recipes, tips, and more, all related to cancer prevention. The issue, curated by the magazine’s editorial team, is available beginning today at wholeliving.com/standup. With each issue view, MSLO will make a donation for up to a total of $10,000 by December 31, 2012 to Stand Up To Cancer, a charitable program of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) focused on accelerating the pace of cancer research. The issue coincides with Stand Up To Cancer’s September 7 telecast, which will air simultaneously and commercial-free on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and cable television at 8 p.m./7 p.m. CT.

“We’re so glad to be involved in this special collaboration with Stand Up To Cancer,” said Alanna Stang, editor-in-chief of Whole Living. “Our goal at the magazine is to help our readers live a full life in every way. And we know that making informed choices about our diets is one of the most important—and enjoyable—ways to take charge of our well-being. That’s why we’re so delighted to present this collection of recipes and tips. We hope our information—and fabulous looking food—will inspire people to make some small changes that can have a big impact on their whole lives.”

To promote healthy living and the fight to end cancer, the editorial team of Whole Living culled together more than 40 pages of power-food-packed recipes and advice directly related to cancer prevention. The more than 25 recipes are categorized by breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, and drinks, and include:

  • Baked Eggs in Whole Roasted Tomatoes (the fruit contains lycopene, which may reduce the risk of lung and stomach cancers, and our bodies get more lycopene from cooked tomatoes than raw ones);
  • Spaghetti with Sardines, Cauliflower, and Kale (olive oil is rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory monounsaturated fat; cauliflower and kale boast plenty of antioxidant, cancer-fighting and heart-healthy properties);
  • Citrus Melange with Cashews and Mint (all citrus fruits contain limonoids, which may lower cholesterol and protect against breast, skin, and stomach cancers).

Helpful tips include guidance on foods and spices that may have anticancer effects such as ginger, stone fruits, red pepper flakes, shiitake mushrooms, and black rice.

“We’re so grateful to Whole Living for supporting Stand Up To Cancer in this unique way,” said Stand Up To Cancer co-founder Sue Schwartz. “The funds generated by the views will further our scientists’ research, and we’re hopeful that many readers will tune into our September 7 broadcast after learning about it through this special digital issue!”

“50 Ways To Stand Up to Cancer” advertisers include Merrell, Avalon Organics, Bonterra Wines, Just Bare Chicken, Almased, and Nature’s Way.
