About SU2C

What is the goal of Stand Up To Cancer?

Simply put, Stand Up To Cancer’s goal is to end cancer’s reign as a leading cause of death by raising funds to accelerate research that will help more people diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors.

SU2C is founded on the belief that in the field of cancer research there is a solid foundation and sufficient understanding of the basic science of cancer, and with the technologies available, now is the time to take that understanding to the next level by translating this knowledge to the clinic—to real advances in patient care and cancer prevention.

What is a Dream Team?

Dream Teams are multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional and collaborative groups of scientists that conduct novel, groundbreaking cancer research projects that address critical problems in patient care. Dream Teams are made up of the best scientists who are on the verge of critical discoveries that can provide direct patient benefit in the shortest time possible. What is an Innovative Research Grant?

The Innovative Research Grants program is the second major funding commitment made by Stand Up To Cancer, with the goal of supporting the next generation of cancer research leaders. The projects funded all represent new approaches to the most important and challenging problems facing cancer researchers today.

Who are SU2C’s donors? Do they include any tobacco companies?

Stand Up To Cancer is not supported in any way by Big Tobacco. We have a broad range of donors who support SU2C’s accelerated cancer research. In addition to individuals, SU2C’s donors and collaborators include foundations (including the foundations of major companies), organizations, philanthropists, and a wide range of public-spirited corporations.

That support has enabled SU2C to establish a groundbreaking new approach to cancer research. Because of the generosity and profound commitment of our donors, SU2C has funded 62 collaborative research teams, including 22 Dream Teams, as well as 46 Innovative Research Grants. These grant recipients include more than 1,200 researchers, representing more than 140 institutions. Since 2008, more than 180 clinical trials have been planned, launched, or completed by SU2C.

 

Who created Stand Up To Cancer?

Stand Up To Cancer was created by a group of women whose lives have all been affected by cancer in profound ways. In the fall of 2007, they began working together to marshal the resources of the media and entertainment industries in the fight against this disease. SU2C was formally launched on May 27, 2008. How will donations to Stand Up To Cancer be used?

100% of public donations received by SU2C support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs. We have partnered with the prestigious American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) to provide scientific oversight and expert peer review, and administer Stand Up To Cancer grants.

Is my donation to Stand Up To Cancer tax deductible?

Yes, your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law and you will be given a receipt for U.S. tax purposes.

What is the Stand Up To Cancer Federal Tax ID number?

Stand Up To Cancer is a division of the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. The EIF Federal Tax ID number is 95-1644609.

How much of my donation goes to the cause?

100% of your donation received by SU2C will support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs.

What will appear on my credit card statement?

When you make a donation by credit card, a charge to “Stand Up To Cancer” will appear on your credit card billing statement.

I donated, but did not get a tax receipt. What do I do?

Email receipts are sent out within 10 days of donating. If it has been longer than that and you still have not received an email, please contact Donor Services at donation@su2c.org or by calling 1-800-204-5809.

If you did not provide an email address, your receipt will be sent via USPS regular mail. This can take several weeks. If it has been longer than 4-6 weeks since you donated, please contact Donor Services at donation@su2c.org or by calling 1-800-204-5809.

I have a question about my donation, who do I contact?

Can I mail in a cash donation?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash donations. If you would like to mail in cash, please convert to a cashier’s check and mail to the below address. Be sure to include your personal information with the cashier’s check so we may accurately generate a tax receipt.

Can I make a recurring donation?

Yes, you can choose to make your donation recurring by checking the ‘Yes, make this donation a monthly gift’ box during an online donation. You can also contact our Donor Services at donorsupport@su2c.org or call 1-800-204-5809.

How do I cancel my recurring donation?

To cancel your recurring donation please contact Donor Services at donorsupport@su2c.org or call 1-800-204-5809.

Can I donate through my mobile phone?

Yes, you can donate through your mobile phone by texting STAND to the number 40202 to give $10 from your mobile phone. When prompted reply with YES to complete your one-time $10 gift. $10 will be added to your mobile phone bill or deducted from your prepaid account. Message and Data Rates May Apply. How do I find out if my employer offers employee matching contributions for Stand Up To Cancer?

Many companies encourage employees to support nonprofit initiatives like Stand Up To Cancer by offering to match employee donations. If your company has such a program, you should be able to obtain a matching gift application form from the human resources or personnel department or from your company’s website for you to download. Do you share my personal information?

Your personal information will only be used to complete your donation transaction. Your email address will be used by Stand Up To Cancer to send you SU2C updates only if you have opted-in and expressly given your permission to receive this information. What hours are your Donor Services representatives available?

Our regular Donor Services hours are Monday – Thursday from 8am-6pm PT, Friday from 8am-5pm PT and Saturday and Sunday from 8am-2pm PT.

If you have any concerns about your health, please contact your physician right away. If you have general questions about cancer, you can click on the For Patients tab on our website where you will find links to several resources providing a wide variety of reliable information. What is a Stand Up To Cancer community fundraiser? How do I get started?

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) community fundraisers are fun and creative ways for supporters to raise money in support of SU2C’s collaborative cancer research programs. You can choose to host your own event or fundraise online.

We encourage you to be as creative as possible and to create a unique and personal fundraiser that shows how you, your school, your business or your entire community are standing up to cancer.

Do I have to have a CrowdRise page in order to fundraiser for Stand Up To Cancer?

We strongly encourage supporters to fundraise through CrowdRise. They provide easy to use personalized fundraising pages and tools to help you raise 3x more in donations, track donors and their donations and reach out to supporters with a couple clicks.

How does my community fundraiser benefit Stand Up To Cancer?

Funds raised through your fundraiser support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs. Our unique research models are expertly designed to initiate collaboration, accelerate the pace of cancer research, and clear the way for high-impact breakthroughs.

What platform is my fundraising page located on?

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) uses the fundraising platform CrowdRise to help its supporters make easy to use, personalized fundraising pages where the funds raised go directly to SU2C.

Are there any restrictions to the activities permitted at fundraisers benefitting Stand Up To Cancer?

We hope that you will be as creative as possible in helping us raise awareness and funds to support Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) collaborative cancer research programs; however, we do not permit fundraisers benefiting SU2C to include lotteries, gambling, raffles or drawings as part of their fundraising activities. Additionally, we do not allow for SU2C merchandise to be resold for fundraising purposes.

Are auctions benefitting Stand Up To Cancer allowed?

Auctions are not permitted at Third Party Events without Stand Up To Cancer’s prior written approval.

Host Your Own Event

Where do I start if I want to organize a fundraising event in support of Stand Up To Cancer?

I have a great idea for an event! How soon do I need to contact Stand Up To Cancer prior to the event?

Please visit Crowdrise.com/HostYourOwn-SU2C to set up your Host Your Own event fundraising page at least 30 days prior to the event. Once your page is live, someone from Stand Up To Cancer will contact you with any questions regarding your event details.

Can Stand Up To Cancer arrange for a celebrity, scientist or representative from the charity to participate in my event?

We are incredibly grateful for the tremendous support of our Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) fundraisers hosting events all over the country. Unfortunately, due to the volume of these events, we cannot arrange for celebrities, scientists or representatives to participate in fundraising events.

Can Stand Up To Cancer help with funding, planning or executing my event?

Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to assist with funding, planning or executing your event. However, we created a Fundraising Toolkit that has ideas and suggestions to help you plan your event and make it your own.

Online Fundraiser

Where do I start if I want to start an online fundraiser in support of Stand Up To Cancer?

I would like to set up a page in memory or honor of a loved one, where do I start?

Fundraising in memory or in honor of a loved one is a thoughtful way to remember or support someone who has been touched by cancer. To start a page go here. Your page will go live immediately, and you can begin sharing the page with friends and family.

How much of the money raised through my fundraiser on CrowdRise goes towards Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs?

100% of the donations Stand Up To Cancer receives through CrowdRise fundraising events support its collaborative cancer research programs. However, CrowdRise does charge a minimal fee for each donation processed, which the donor will be given the option to cover when they make their contribution.

Can checks be applied to my fundraiser total?

Yes! Make checks payable to Stand Up To Cancer and send to the following address along with the Fundraiser Check Donation form. Once your check is received, please allow up to 15 business days for the donation to be added to your fundraising total on CrowdRise.

What if a check is made out to me and not Stand Up To Cancer?

If a donor writes a check to you instead of Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) for your fundraiser, please endorse the back of the check with your signature and add ‘Payable to SU2C.’ We will then provide a tax receipt to the account holder named on the check.

Can I accept the bulk of the donations for my event and write one check to Stand Up To Cancer?

We do not recommend this for two reasons:

  1. The IRS may consider this income and you could potentially be taxed.
  2. Since the check is coming from you and not directly from your donors, your donors will not receive tax receipts for their contributions.

It is best to have each donor write a check payable to Stand Up To Cancer for their desired amount, which you can then collect and mail in at one time with the Fundraiser Check Donation form. SU2C will then be able to generate tax receipts for each donor.

Can I mail in cash donations collected at my fundraiser?

Unfortunately, we cannot accept cash donations. However, if you receive cash donations from different donors at your fundraiser, please convert these to a cashier’s check and mail to the below address along with the Cashier Check Donation form. Be sure to include each donor’s amount donated and personal contact information (name/address) with the cashier’s check so we can provide a tax receipt to each donor.

What is #SU2CStreamTeam?

Stand Up To Cancer’s Stream Team (#SU2CStreamTeam) is a way to raise money in support of Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research by hosting a fundraising stream on one of your favorite platforms (e.g. Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, Facebook Live) through Tiltify, which provides fundraising and donation tools. You can also choose to use the built-in fundraising tools provided directly by the platform (e.g. YouTube Super Chat, Facebook donate button).

How do I get started?

To get started on Tiltify, visit Tiltify SU2C and click the “Start Fundraising” button. Tiltify can connect with your Twitch, YouTube, Facebook Live or Mixer account. If you haven’t previously registered with Tiltify, please follow the prompts to get signed up and begin fundraising. You can choose to start your own event or join a current fundraising event.

What is Tiltify?

Tiltify is a livestream fundraising platform that provides tools for streamers to easily raise money for a charity. Once registered on the platform, you can begin raising money to support Stand Up To Cancer through your Twitch, YouTube, Facebook Live or Mixer! To get started please visit Tiltify SU2C.

Do I have to register with Tiltify in order to host a stream to benefit Stand Up To Cancer?

We encourage our supporters to fundraise through Tiltify. They provide easy to use tools and SU2C is set up to directly receive funds raised by your stream on any of your preferred platforms that connect to Tiltify (e.g., Twitch, Mixer, YouTube, or Facebook Live). You may also use the built-in fundraising tools provided on YouTube and/or Facebook (i.e. Youtube Superchat, Facebook donation button, Facebook fundraiser).

How does my stream benefit Stand Up To Cancer?

Are there any restrictions to the activities permitted during a stream to benefit Stand Up To Cancer?

We hope that you will be as creative as possible in helping us raise awareness and funds to support Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs. However, we do not permit streams benefitting SU2C to include lotteries, gambling, raffles or drawings as part of their fundraising activities. Additionally, we do not allow for SU2C merchandise to be resold for fundraising purposes. Streamers are also not permitted to smoke cigarettes and/or vape and we strongly discourage the use of alcohol.

What information about me does Tiltify share with Stand Up To Cancer?

When you choose to donate through Tiltify, your screen name, email address, donation amount, fundraiser name, and team information will be shared with Stand Up To Cancer.

I am registered with Tiltify and have a question about the platform, who do I contact?

How much of the money raised through my stream connected to Tiltify goes towards Stand Up To Cancer’s collaborative cancer research programs?

100% of the donations Stand Up To Cancer receives from Tiltify fundraisers supports its collaborative cancer research programs. When a donation is made, a minimal transaction fee may be taken by the donation processer (e.g. Stripe, Amazon Pay and/or Paypal); additionally, a platform fee will be taken out up to 5% per transaction by Tiltify.

Can checks be applied to my Tiltify fundraiser total?

Yes! Make checks payable to Stand Up To Cancer and send to the following address along with a note stating the name of your livestream fundraiser on Tiltify. Once your check is received, please allow up to 15 business days for the donation to be added to your fundraising total.

Unfortunately, we cannot generate a tax receipt for a business that donates goods or services to your stream since the donation does not go directly to Stand Up To Cancer.

Yes, your donation is tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law, and you will be emailed a receipt for U.S. tax purposes by Stand Up To Cancer within 4-6 weeks of your initial donation.

What will appear on my credit card statement?

Donations made through Paypal will appear as STANDUPCANC on your credit card statement; donations made through Stripe will appear as STANDUPTOCANC or STAND UP TO CANCER on your credit card statement; and donations made through Amazon Pay will appear as AMZ*SU2C on your credit card statement.

Can I get a refund for my donation made on Tiltify?

Donations made through Tiltify are unfortunately not refundable.
